finally. fantastic!

Well. I don’t want gristlepants to think that I disappeared or was dragged off by llamas or fell into a well or anything. I mean, time’s a little bit of a rare and golden relic for me these days, and tomorrow’s another, like, 12-hour day, but hey, I’ve got a few minutes. So, here’s a weird little song. I’m not sure Ben wants me to post this, because I think a certain, oh, let’s call her “MC”, once slighted his grandparents or something. But let’s not tell him. ::secret handshake::

You know Final Fantasy. You’re maybe annoyed by his name, yes, but you also kind of like him, yes, you do, and you’re also charmed by his sense of humor, aren’t you, and by his loopy string artistry. (I say loopy because he does, indeed, record himself and then loop it and play over himself.) Here’s an example of all of the above. Mr. Owen Pallett covering Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” in Vancouver in September ’06. Listen to it, I say, or you shall all perish*!

  • Final Fantasy — “Fantasy” (Vancouver, BC Sept. 19th 2006)

*By “perish” the author means simply “miss out on a hilarious yet majestic display of instrumental skillz as well as requisite Mariah Carey-related rock-outery sure to send you back to middle school IN THE GOOD WAY, and that’s just gonna have to be your loss, you poor simpleton.”

  1. I saw his play once in Seattle and it was nice.
