Holy shit– you know that experience where you go through life thinking you’re crazy until you randomly find someone with the same opinions? Just happened. I keep pushing the Birth Soundtrack on my friends (one of my favorite albums of all time) and here you’ve got some of my other favorites like Thin Red Line and Last of the Mohicans. I’m excited to hear the new ones, though there are a few more mainstream scores that you didn’t include that are quite good– Oldfield’s tubular bells, Philip Glass’s metamorhposis stuff, and the (gulp) American Beauty soundtrack. I’m way impressed though. Email me with some more picks if you would– anything would be great.

And a little extra info on the Ravenous score. Most of the songs are based on recordings from Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music — specifically the Social Music discs. Since you liked the Ravenous soundtrack, I imagine you’d love those old (and quietly infamous) recordings. Greil Marcus wrote a great chapter on them in his book The Old, Weird America, which is a great book, too.
